The concept of a proper fitting two pin adaptor was born out of frustration with the adaptors that were and still is available in the market for mainly cellular phone chargers with the hexagon shape (six sided). The short charging cable was another matter that contributed to the design of a one meter cord connecting the charger to the wall plug and still has a secure and permanent fitting to supply constant power to the charger and thus actually charge the phone whilst connected. The design and product is unique to South Africa an is locally manufactured. The product is not an extension cord but a connector cord between the three pin 15 amp wall socket and the cord connected to the item fitted with the European (six sided) two pin plug or a round two pin plug that is unearthed. The possibility of accidentally disconnect the charger unit and the adaptor is slim due to the fact that the connection is not standing out from a wall plug and/or is in a walking path where the slightest contact will dislodge the charger from the adaptor. The connection point should be able to rest on any standard table, desk or cupboard as those height’s are all less than the one meter of the cord and thus ensure that the charger/adaptor connection is always safe and secure.
The initial cell phone charge adaptor has proven to be much more versatile that we initially envisaged. The uses in and around any household from the kitchen, bathroom, garage, workshop, office and the outdoors is numerous and will go as wide as the users imagination.
As indicated did the applications grow with time and the original patent was changed in 2014 to adapt to the changes required by law. The design was also extended at the same time to include the round two pin plug mainly found on power tools and hair styling equipment. These additional applications has also opened new markets for the product and although this product is only recognised in design by the DTI and patent office it still is unique to the one meter cord. Most of the marketing currently is done by word of mouth and in some instance we were able to get it on the shelves of retailers and chain store but with limited success. Expo’s and festivals is our main marketing drive and we welcome our “old clients” that has bought one or two at an expo/festival just to realise that they are in need of more of our unique products. back as they are the people whom market the product on our behalf. Some of the popular expo’s and festivals attended include the Getaway show at the Dome, The KYKNET Outdoor Expo at Mbizi in Bela Bela, The OUTDOOR X in Vereeninging and The Landrover Festival to name a few. Our future plan is to attend more of these and aim to have regular offset points in the some of the retail stores. In line with this strategy we are also targeting the tool manufacturers, supply companies and other mayor suppliers of other products that could benefit from providing a connector cord with their product.
